Religious Brothers' Outreach Activity in Santa Ana, Cagayan

Every year since 2018, the religious brothers of the Custody of the Immaculate Conception and Blessed Bonaventure of Potenza organize a charitable activity for our poor and marginalized brothers and sisters. In the previous years, they extended assistance through relief goods operations and simple gift-giving.

Last December 26-28, 2023, five religious brothers traveled 18 hours for over 700 km to share consumable gifts with five Agta tribal communities. Each community is home to fewer than 200 members who, at this time of the year, are in survival mode since the seas and forests do not meet their daily needs due to the unfortunate realities of ecological and political exploitations happening around them. Their experience is a witness to the fact that the cry of the earth is likewise the cry of the poor (Laudato Si’, 49).

The effort was done in collaboration with the Franciscan Apostolic Sisters who provide an integral response to the human and spiritual needs through formal and non-formal education, empowerment, and basic sustainability to these indigenous communities.

Lastly, the organizers wish to thank our lay collaborators who made the outreach program possible.
