If Today You Hear the Voice of the Lord, Harden Not Your Hearts

27th Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Responsorial Psalm this Sunday invites us to listen with our hearts. “If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.” Listening is an action of love, every person who loves, listens. It is through listening that we understand a person.

In the first reading, we see the prophet Habakkuk complaining to God because He is not listening to the cry of his people. He is not doing anything with the misery of his people. The irony is: it is Habakkuk who does not know how to listen to God. He needs to be patient and listen attentively to God speaking to Him.

Jesus is the source of the fullness of our life.

Many times, in our life, the problem is we do not know how to listen, we do not know how to pray, and we do not know how to love, our faith is so little.

We find in the Gospel, the disciples asking Jesus to increase their faith. They humbly recognize that they do lack faith. When we recognize also our lack of faith in Jesus, he will be there helping us grow in faith and love of God. Jesus in the Eucharist is the food that sustains us. He is the food that nourishes our faith , hope and charity. He is the source of the fullness of our life.

Let us receive Him with an open heart!
