The Ascension of Jesus to heaven body and soul is presented in today's readings as the crowning glory of Easter.
Jesus, after his victorious triumph over sin and death, now returns to the Father, bringing with him his human body. In Jesus' ascension, humanity entered the heavens and was welcomed by a multitude of angels. The heavens rejoice exultantly because the love of God triumphs over hatred. Once again creation was united to his Creator.
The heavens rejoice exultantly because the love of God triumphs over hatred.
Today's feast leads to another great feast, "the Pentecost". The coming of the Holy Spirit will enlighten/illumine the hearts of all faithful. It is the Good News that was proclaimed by the Apostles to the world. It is the same Good News that we Catholic Christians are asked to proclaim now.
The same Jesus who ascended into heaven, is asking us to proclaim it to the ends of the world.
May our hearts be enlightened by the mystery of our faith so that we may live our lives fully and that our joy may be complete and that we may be true witnesses of our Lord Jesus Christ.
