Consecration to the Immaculata: A Sharing of Gifts with Others

In 1917, St. Maximilian Kolbe, along with six other friars, established the Militia of the Immaculata (MI). The Movement is aimed “to win the entire world for the Immaculata and, through her, for the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.” Although a centennial had passed, its members continued to passionately live its mission paving the way for the growth of the Movement.

On February 10, 2024, a day before the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, the Militia of the Immaculata (MI) - San Agustin Parish Circle – in Brg. Moonwalk, Paranaque City sponsored a Six-Talk Series of preparation for MI Consecration. These talks about the path to total consecration to Our Lady in the Spirit of St. Maximilian Kolbe was given by three junior friars namely Friar Martin Gabito, OFMConv., Friar Augustine, OFMConv., and Friar Yosef Amedo, OFMConv. The gathering was attended by parishioners of all ages and genders. The talks for total consecration to Mary aim to empower baptized Catholic to a renewed Life in Christ and become evangelizers in their current state of life. To have a deeper understanding of true devotion to Mary; as another gift, as the perfect model, image, and anticipation of the Church, as a virgin mother, as an attentive virgin in prayer, and as a virgin presenting an offering.

The junior friars enriched the presentations with their personal reflections on the Scriptures, Kolbean Writings, and some Church documents such as Marialis Cultus and Lumen Gentium. The talks intend not only to prepare the faithful for the Total Consecration to the Immaculata but also to inspire them to participate in the mission of the Church to proclaim the Good News through continuous conversion and witness to gospel life. The gathering concluded with a Eucharistic Celebration and Consecration ritual presided over by Friar Bernard Anuta OFMConv., the vice National Spiritual Assistant for MI.

On February 11, 2024, Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, several of our brethren joined the indestructible force of the Militia of the Immaculata. After undergoing the necessary formation and series of talks on line, the new but determined knights willingly consecrated themselves to the Immaculata, committing to participate in MI's mission. The solemn rite of consecration, which was done during the Holy Mass, was conducted at the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in St. Maximilian Friary, Parañaque City. The Holy Eucharist was presided over by Fra. Dominic Lim, OFMConv., National Spiritual Assistant for MI.

In his homily, Fr. Dominic encouraged those who attended the event, especially newly consecrated MI members, to share their gifts with others. He went on to say that by sharing their gifts with others and allowing themselves to be 'used' by the Immaculata, they will spread healing and love all over the world, which is desperately needed right now.
