Solar Energy Powers St. Joseph Friary

In response to Pope Francis' call to heed the cry of the earth, as expressed in his encyclical letter Laudato Si’, the Philippine Custody of the Immaculate Conception and Blessed Bonaventure of Potenza is gradually shifting to solar energy. As of May 4, 2024, solar panels installed at St. Joseph Friary in Tagaytay City are fully operational, supplying daytime power to the friary, the FAMC common novitiate, postulancy areas, and the spirituality center.

The entire energy system was installed by WeGen Laudato Si, a local solar energy company. This initiative was brought to fruition through the efforts of the JPIC Custodial Head Delegate and St. Joseph Spirituality Center in-charge, Fra Miguel Sumagaysay, OFMConv.

On May 17, 2024, a basic orientation seminar was held at St. Joseph Friary by three WeGen employees. The seminar was attended by friar representatives from three friaries and two Franciscan sisters. It is hoped that this initiative will expand to all the locations under the Custody.

Laudato Si

WeGen Laudato Si’ (WGLS) is a special purpose company inspired by Pope Francis’ Encyclical Letter calling for ecological conversion- for all to care for the earth, our common home. WGLS was formed specifically to work closely with the Catholic Church and other religious communities in the country.
