The Most Holy Eucharist, Source and Summit of Every Christian Life

After celebrating the Solemnity of Corpus Christi last Sunday, we are led by our Mother Church to a deeper relation with Jesus in the Eucharist. As the church teaches, the Eucharist is the source and summit of our life. Life flows from the Eucharist and finds its meaning back into it. It is where we learn to love God with all our heart, mind, and being. It is also in the Eucharist where we learn how to love our neighbour, the greatest commandment to which according to Jesus, our Lord, all the prophets and law are summed up.

"It is in the Eucharist where we learn to love God with all our heart, mind, and being."

Today, the first reading tells us the story of the calling of Elisha to be a prophet of God by following Elijah the prophet. The second reading on the other hand highlights the law.

Both the first reading and the second reading points towards the Eucharist that we celebrate. Our celebration defines what we believe because it is what we believe that we celebrate and what we believe defines our way of living. As the old Liturgy tenet puts it: Lex Orandi, Lex Credendi, Lex Vivendi (The law of worship defines the law of our belief and the way we live our lives). After all it is our faith and life that we celebrate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
