Prioritizing God's Plan

Fourth Sunday of Advent

As we celebrate the fourth Sunday of Advent, the liturgy gives us the Blessed Virgin Mary and Joseph as a guide to be able to arrive at the Manger of the Word made Flesh, Our Lord Jesus Christ. The common denominators we find in them were: They both were listening to God. Their priority is to do the will of God and they were exemplar in their humility.

Mary is a listening Woman, her heart listens attentively to God and she knows the voice of the Lord. She was quick in giving her Fiat to the Lord and she considers himself the Handmaid of the Lord.

Mary and Joseph's priority is to do the will of God and they were exemplar in their humility.

Joseph on the other hand was also docile in his discernment to the will of God, He taught of divorcing Mary because he felt he was not worthy to be the foster father of the Son of God. He surely trusts Mary’s fidelity but because of the greatness of the tasks, he saw himself not capable. Only when the angel Gabriel assured him that this was the plan of God and told him not to be afraid that he accepts the task of being the Guardian of the Redeemer.

Let us learn from Mary and Joseph to humbly listen, discern, and make God’s plan our priority. Let us not be afraid to say yes to God all the time because God is faithful and true to his promise that He will take care of us!
