24th Sunday in Ordinary Time
In this Sunday’s first reading, we saw how forgetful the Israelites are. They were just taken out of the slavery from the Egyptians. They saw in their own eyes the wonders and might of God and yet their hearts remained imprisoned in Egypt. They again started worshipping the golden calf. Worse, Aaron, who is from the priestly clan, participated in this horrible abomination. Moses pleaded for God’s mercy and mercy was granted. The priestly clan was transferred to the house of Levi because they were the only clan that did not participate in worshiping the false God.
When we learn to make God our priority, we learn how to become one with Him through Jesus. And when we are one with Him, we have everything.
In today's Gospel, Jesus reveals more of the mercy of God. He leads us to discover more the love and mercy of the Father. In the parable he gave, we hear the Father saying: "Everything I have is yours”. When we learn to make God our priority, we learn how to become one with Him through Jesus. And when we are one with Him, we have everything.
Let us try our best to love God with all our heart, mind, and soul and not the idols of this world (money, power, ourselves, etc.)
