Thirteen young men, each seeking purpose and direction, from various parts of the country participated in the recent Vocation Search-In program conducted by the Philippine Custody through the Office of the Vocation Director from May 23 to 28. The program was held at St. Maximilian Friary in Parañaque.
The participants were given the opportunity to live with the community and experience the life of the friars. They joined in the daily rhythm of prayer, recreation, manual work, meals, and joyful moments. In every aspect of community life shared with them, the candidates expressed deep gratitude to the friars.
The week-long program featured various activities, including entrance examinations and interviews conducted by the Formation Commission to assess the candidates’ readiness and willingness to embrace the Franciscan Conventual way of life. They also attended a series of talks on the Franciscan charism, history, and vocation, helping them gain a deeper understanding of the life they aspire to. The Office of the Vocation Director expressed heartfelt thanks to the friars who generously shared their time and insights about St. Francis and the Franciscan life.
On the third day, the participants visited St. Joseph Friary in Tagaytay City, where they attended Sunday Mass and shared breakfast with the friars. Later that day, they held a half-day recollection at the cemetery of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary. On their final night at the friary, they gathered for a sharing session, where they expressed sincere gratitude for the enriching experience of prayer and community life. Many shared personal insights and realizations that they will carry with them as they continue discerning their vocation—a journey marked by a deepening love story with God, who continually calls them forward.
On the last day, during lunch, the young men offered songs and dances as an expression of joy and appreciation. In return, the friars imparted the Blessing of St. Francis to guide and protect them as they returned home. Both friars and participants were filled with gratitude for the meaningful encounter that unfolded during the Search-In program.
Let us continue to hope and pray that God may inspire more young men to consider the Franciscan way of life and sustain each of us in our chosen vocations.
