The Threefold Coming of Jesus

33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, we are almost at the end of the liturgical year and the readings this Sunday bring us to the topic of Jesus’ three fold coming: He came as a helpless child in Bethlehem, He comes to us in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and will be coming at the end times to restore justice.

The urgency and the need to be prepared is marked in the first reading. The second reading gives us the way to do it: by being imitators of Christ, painting Christ in our lives and working quietly.

Nothing should separate us from the love of the Lord. Neither hunger, persecution, calamity, war, or even death.

In the Gospel, Jesus tries to direct their attention to the heart of the message, not on the superficiality of “when is it occurring?, what are the signs that would accompany it?”. He directs us not to lose our inner peace and to stay calm and focus on cultivating love. God will take care of us and is in control of everything. Nothing should separate us from the love of the Lord. Neither hunger, persecution, calamity, war, or even death.
